Teaching scuba lessons

1 – Classroom

The Classroom part is two sessions of learning what scuba diving is all about. From the equipment used to basic safety to the skills developed while diving, the classroom sessions allow you to ask questions, interact with your instructor and meet your other students learners in a relaxed atmosphere at the MadisonScuba shop. Both sessions are conveniently held at the shop in Sun Prairie. We offer two choices of dates – a Week night set (Wednesday and Thursday night, 5:30pm – 9:30pm) or Weekend set (Saturday morning/Sunday afternoon) – that are usually the 2nd week of the month scheduled around our Pool training sessions.

2 – Pool

The Pool training consists of two sessions of actually putting the skills, lessons and knowledge you learned in the classroom into practice. In the confines of a pool (the new Sun Prairie High School pool), you learn and practice real diving skills. Under the supervision of your instructor with assistance from our staff Divemasters and Assistant Instructors, MadisonScuba is able to tailor your instruction to your pace. Having a problem with a particular skill? We are able to work with you one on one to help you reach your goal – becoming a skilled diver!

3 – Checkouts

The final step in your certification process is the Checkout dives. Checkouts are two sessions of two dives each, actually diving demonstrating your understanding of the lessons you learned in the classroom and pool. These sessions take place in ‘Open’ water – a lake or the ocean – either seasonally here with MadisonScuba or by referral on your vacation in a warm water destination. We gear up for our Checkout dives here in Madison from May through October.

Complete these three steps (with MadisonScuba) and you qualify for your Open Water Diver certification.
