Learning just got easier with the new SSI digital learning platform. Use your mobile phone or tablet (iPhone, iPad or Android device) for your Digital Home Study learning. Start when you want, end when you need to and pick up where you left off. SSIdigitalipad

It’s as easy as 1, 2, 3.

1 – Academics – Digital Home Study and Workshops

The Academic portion consists of the Digital Home Study learning then coming into the shop for a hands on Workshop 1 session (followed by Pool 1 and 2) finishing up with Workshop 2 (review and final exam). From the equipment used to basic safety to the skills developed while diving, the Workshop sessions allow you to ask questions, interact with your instructor and meet your other students learners in a relaxed atmosphere at the MadisonScuba shop. Both sessions are conveniently held at the shop in Sun Prairie.

Here is a typical course sequence:

  • Digital Home Study via DiveSSI app or website
  • Workshop 1 – Usually the 2nd week of the month – Week night (Wednesday or Thursday night, 6:00pm – 9:30pm) or Weekend (Saturday 10:00am – 3:00pm)
  • Pool 1 – Saturday from 4 – 8 pm
  • Pool 2 – Sunday from 7:45 am – 11:30 am
  • Workshop 2 – Sunday from 1 – 3 pm
  • Training Dives 1 and 2 – Thursday evening or Saturday morning the week following Pool
  • Training Dives 3 and 4 – Friday evening or Sunday morning the week following Pool

2 – Pool

The Pool training consists of two sessions of actually putting the skills, lessons and knowledge you learned in the digital learning and workshops into practice. In the confines of a pool (the new Sun Prairie High School pool), you learn and practice real diving skills. Under the supervision of your Instructor with assistance from our staff Divemasters and Assistant Instructors, MadisonScuba is able to tailor your instruction to your pace. Having a problem with a particular skill? We are able to work with you one on one to help you reach your goal – becoming a skilled diver!

3 – Certification Training dives

The final step in your certification process is the Certification Training dives. Certification Training dives are two sessions of two dives each, actually diving and demonstrating your understanding of the lessons and skills you learned in the classroom and pool. These sessions take place in ‘Open Water’ – a lake, quarry or the ocean – either seasonally here with MadisonScuba or by referral on your vacation in a warm water destination. We gear up for our Training dives here in Madison from May through October.

Complete these three steps (with MadisonScuba) and you qualify for your Open Water Diver certification!
