Lake Superior, Munising, MI Aug 20, 21, 2016

Lake Superior, oh my cold….. Not so in the Munising Bay in August. Last year the coldest water temperature we had was 59 F. That’s balmy compared to Lake Michigan near Milwaukee!

Join Brian as MadisonScuba travels to the small community of Munising, Michigan in the Upper Peninsula on Lake Superior where mining, lumbering and fishing were the primary industries since the early 1800’s. Fishing for Lake Trout and Whitefish is still a significant industry but tourism is the lifeblood of this area today.

We dive with Shipwreck Tours and Captain Peter Lindquist aboard the Wreck Express for 2 sets of 2 tank dives on some very nice wrecks. Just a short 5 to 20 minute boat ride to the dive sites, the dives are scheduled for 1 pm on Saturday and 9 am on Sunday. This area is in the Eastern Time Zone!

The Dives

All dives will be done within Recreational Diving standards of depth and time.
Steven Selvick – a modern tug that was intentionally sunk in 1996. A nice first dive.

The Herman Hettler – scattered in 2 locations as she hit a “wall” (that’s what it looks like) and broke into several sections.

The Smith Moore – the deepest of the group at 80 ft to the deck but some of the best preserved. Sank in 1889 after a collision.

The Bermuda – a nice shallow dive, the ship is in remarkable condition since she was built in 1860 and sank in 1870! In 1883 she was moved to the current location and has been there ever since.
