Many stores offer snorkeling kits. The sizing of the kit is usually determined by your foot size for the fins instead of which mask actually fits your face. Not so at MadisonScuba. We sell our masks, snorkels, and fins separately so you can create exactly the package you want and correctly fits you.

Mask, Snorkel and Fins

Can’t decide between a semi-dry and a dry snorkel? We will explain the differences and help you decide what is best for you.
We stock over 25 different styles of masks (that’s not even counting all the different colors for each type of mask). MadisonScuba provides you with the personal attention you deserve from our staff. Do you really want to have snorkeling equipment explained to you by a person who was working in camping gear yesterday? At MadisonScuba you will be working with an experienced staff who will give you individual attention to make sure you get the exact fit to make your snorkeling adventure memorable. We stock small, medium, and large sized masks for snorkelers of all ages and sizes.

MadisonScuba specializes in Cressi masks, an industry leader, along with Tusa and other brands.  Cressi masks are consistently rated as a top pick by the industry.  If you have problems with clearing water from your mask/nose pocket, we can install a nose purge valve in any mask you choose. Don’t know what a nose purge is?  Come in and let us explain.

Our selection of fins includes full foot (sized to your foot), adjustable straps (for your foot without boots) or adjustable straps with the use of boots. Small length fins make packing easier, while longer length fins makes it easier to glide through the water.

In addition to the basics of mask, snorkel and fins, we also offer a full range of other items, including mask defog (don’t use your spit), snorkeling vests (for people needing a little more buoyancy), mesh bags (for carrying your gear), and lots more.

Just like any other vacation, taking pictures of what you see while snorkeling is a must.  MadisonScuba offers several types of underwater cameras to help you capture the magic of the underwater world. These cameras are easy to use, most offer a movie feature to capture that green sea turtle swimming by or whatever happens to be your favorite, and best of all you can use these cameras as ‘regular’ cameras while out of the water. You will wow your friends with your pictures.

While you are in the store, ask us where we have been and what we’ve seen. We have been all over the Caribbean, Hawaii, Australia, and many other places. We are happy to share our experiences and hear about yours. Come on in to see how we can make you next snorkeling trip, the trip of a lifetime.

One weekend each month we offer a snorkeling class at the Sun Prairie High School pool. It is a 12′ deep salt water pool wonderfully suited for perfecting your snorkeling skills. Classes are on Saturday evening at 4:30 pm or Sunday morning at 8:30 am lasting about an hour with a fee of only $25 per person. We can provide you will all of the gear you will need or you can bring your own.

If you can’t wait until one of our scheduled weekends or if it doesn’t fit your schedule, stop out to the shop to snorkel in our shop pool during our business hours: M-Th 5p-9p and Sat 9a-4p. This is also a great way to try out the new snorkeling gear you just bought from us.

What are you going to learn?

We will discuss all of the different kinds of gear involved in snorkeling. We will demonstrate and you will perform several different types of entries so you are prepared to enter the water from all sizes of boats. You will practice surface dives and blasting your snorkel in order to clear it. One of the best things we will teach you is how to clear your mask without yanking it off of your face.

There are several ways to kick while in the water. We will teach you those techniques, find out what works for you and your fins.

All kinds of people attend our snorkeling classes from a local Boy Scout troop attending Sea Base Camp in Florida to a family going snorkeling in the Caribbean for the very first time.

Diver beware

Our group of 11 totaled somewhere around 50 dives combined over two days. When the Mine filled, the workers dropped their picks and drills and got the h%ll out of there. Now, we all have a chance to enjoy this underground deathtrap….. I mean playground where a lot of the mining machinery is still down there. Diving thru the ore chutes and around the massive support columns is an awesome dive experience that you won’t forget. See you there in 2013!
