Join MadisonScuba for a day of fun and exploration at Pearl Lake in South Beloit, Illinois.
A former sand and rock quarry Pearl Lake sports some of the most interesting underwater environments in the area. Sunken cabin cruisers, statues, dive platforms, even a 33′ replica WW II U-Boat are available to find and see within the limits of Open Water divers.
Pan fish, Walleye, Perch, a variety of bass and a lone broke back catfish also inhabit the rather clear waters of Pearl Lake. 40′ viz is not uncommon along with nice 70 degree water temps above the thermocline. Below the thermocline, around 30′, the water is a chilly 60 degrees. Hanging out below the thermocline is a hood and gloves recommended experience.
The east side of the lake has most of the sunken boats, sub and a school bus while the west side of the lake has a sunken twin engine Beechcraft plane and many sunken culverts that usually are home to larger fish.
Usually at least a 2 tank day, but could be 3 if the group desires. Air fills are available on site for $8.00. We recommend bringing 2 tanks and refilling one if needed for that third dive.
If you need rental gear, we will have the special Tuesday night dive price of $35 for all of the gear you need. You must pick up your gear on Thursday night!
The fee for diving at Pearl Lake is $20.00. A non-diver fee of $10 is required of those who are not diving. Non-diver fee also covers admission to the beach area when it is open. Diving is only allowed in the main body of the lake. No swimming or wading is allowed in the dive area.
There is also a beautiful sand swimming beach in the roped off swimming area.
Divers must have their C-Card with them and show it at registration.
Stick will be the Dive Pro on this trip. If you have specific questions for him, email him stick@madisonscuba.com.
Meet at the Dutch Mill Park-n-ride at 8 am for car pooling. If you are joining us at Pearl, meet there at 9 am. Ride sharing, chipping in for gas, bringing a picnic lunch are all encouraged on this trip.
