Haigh Quarry Day Trip
A great day trip from MadisonScuba is Haigh Quarry. Known as “the Caribbean of the Midwest” Haigh Quarry sports an incredible variety of fish, fabulous viz and an underwater Archaeological site!
We will leave around 7 am from the Dutch Mill Park-n-ride and travel about 3 1/2 hours to Haigh. Car Pooling, chipping in for gas and picnic lunch and dinner are encouraged.
Entrance fee for divers is $20.00, non-divers $10.00.
Pan fish, Walleye, Perch, a variety of bass, Walleye, Musky and Northerns are plentiful. You might even catch a glimpse of the 4 Paddlefish that inhabit the quarry. 40-50′ viz is not uncommon along with nice 60-70 degree water temps above the thermocline. Below the thermocline, around 30′, the water is a chilly 50-60 degrees. Hanging out below the thermocline is a hood and gloves recommended experience.
The north side of the quarry is shallower, has the rock quarry equipment and dive platforms. A great place to work on buoyancy. The south side of the quarry is the deeper side with colder water but Paddlefish, LARC, Tricycle farm, deep platforms and wall structures. Directly to the south of the beach entry is the Archaeological site where you can practice your techniques of buoyancy and science.
Usually at least a 2 tank day, but could be 3 if the group desires. Air fills are available on site for $8.00. We recommend bringing 2 tanks and refilling one if needed for that third dive. NITROX 32 is available for $14.00/fill. Nitrox C-Card is required.
If you need rental gear, we will have the special Tuesday night dive price of $35 for all of the gear you need. Pick up your gear from the shop on Thursday night.
The fee for diving at Haigh Quarry is $20.00. A non-diver fee of $10 is required of those who are not diving. Pets are not allowed nor are non-divers under the age of 12.
Divers must have their C-Card with them and show it at registration.
